A young man approached Socrates and asked him, "Can you teach me wisdom?" Socrates told him he would, but to first follow him. Socrates led him through the city and down to the water. As the young man followed Socrates into the water, he pushed him under so the young man had to gasp and struggle for air. The young man asked, "why did you do that!?" Socrates replied, when you desire wisdom as much as that breath of air, you will be on the path to gaining wisdom.
