Story Telling

Part of my joy as a photographer is to tell and re-tell a story using my God given ideas. This story telling is a very exciting and important part of wedding photography. We as wedding photographers have been granted the right to capture your special and holy moments for you and others to re-live over and over again. Whether it be laughing, crying, the intimate and grand, those moments are captured so you can be reminded who you are and how much you love your spouse. They define your relationship and reveal who you are as a couple. Hopefully, years down the road you will happen to gaze at your favorite image from your wedding and it will bring you joy.

One way we try to capture these moments is to try to be aware of moments where people are truly alive. Their laugh and smile will reveal all, a tear will show you their heart felt love and energy and movement will help you re-live the excitement. We teach ourselves to slow down and be observant.

We shoot with low aperture to isolate everything except the subject. The soft background makes the images appear ethereal. This effect strives to mimic the emotion of a two newly weds who are focus solely on one another.

A Rocket Scientist and a Cellist.

Yesterday, Necia and I had the pleasure of doing an engagement shoot for Ted and Kristin in Downtown SLO. Ted works for NASA and Kristin is a cellist. Here are a couple of photos from the day.

A-Town Skate Comp

Today I had the opportunity to photograph a skate competition for the youth of Atascadero. It was pretty fun. The photography was totally different that Weddings or Nature because my subject moved...very quickly. I grabbed few of good shots and I think next time i will be more equiped to grab more than a few. My flash likes to eat AAs for breakfast so it would work only when it felt like it. That left me with ambient light. It was hard to balance exposure with a fast shutter speed. But next time, I think I will be ready with an slaved off camera flash.
